We like sharp things, especially knives. From FOX Knives, there is a nice outdoor, bushcraft, all-round knife with the fitting name " CORE", which translates to "Core" or more freely "Base". We took a close look at it.
This is how you receive it, without the small lanyard. The quiver sheath has proven to be very practical and it holds the knife perfectly. The sheath is made of Cordura and leather and resembles the scabbards of Finnish daggers, ideal for securing the knife against loss in the wilderness.
By the way, here are the basic details:
Handle: Nylon
Sheath: Nylon
Weight: 149 g
Total length: 235 mm
Blade length: 110 mm
Blade thickness: 4 mm
Country of manufacture: Italy
On the back, you will find a webbing loop with a snap button. This allows the FOX Core to be securely attached to the belt, as long as it is not wider than 6 cm.
The drop point blade is 11 cm long and made of BECUT steel. The blade is stonewashed, giving it a beautiful satin finish. The FOX Core looks very elegant overall. Which is no wonder, as the knife's design is by Jesper Voxnaes, who makes a lot of beautiful knives that we all love.
An outdoor knife should not be too thin. The spine of the blade, at 4 mm, is not the widest knife we know, but it is strong enough for all tasks. The spine is serrated close to the handle for better grip during fine carving work. By the way, the FOX Core weighs 150 grams without the sheath and lanyard, a very comfortable weight.
On the right side, at the handle, you will find the product designation "FX-605" and other markings. The curvature at the beginning of the blade is perfect for a ferro rod.
We have tested this and used it multiple times. We did not encounter any problems. The blade's edge retention was very good. We only had to sharpen it once in two months.
The handle material is FRN®, a plastic with good grip. The standout feature of the FOX Core is the Kryptek-like mesh pattern.
The knife fits very well in the hand due to multiple curves of the handle.
For those who want to get artistic, the pattern on the handle provides a nice canvas. As a test, we colored the indentations with blue on one side. It doesn't look bad at all, but tastes vary.
FINAL THOUGHTS: The FOX Core from FOX Knives in Italy is a truly solid outdoor, bushcraft knife. Thanks to its light weight, it doesn't weigh heavily on the belt and can handle all kinds of tasks well. The design and price are also convincing, making this knife a tool for the outdoors that you can confidently rely on.
The FOX Knives Core FX-605 is available at Lamnia for 61.00 EURO.
