Names are mere noise. Especially in the world of gear. If you get yourself a Force Recon Vest, you might have an associative image of Marines. But what does that really mean... Flyye, an Asian quality manufacturer, offers a big gear classic under the name: the CIRAS Maritime, originally from Eagle Industries, which was the standard for special forces worldwide over 10 years ago. We took a look at the Multicam set, available in Germany at SNIPER AS for you.
So if you want to boost your self-esteem by 200 percent, then this is the armor for you. You put it on and feel like Robocop. The CIRAS Maritime is made of heavy 1000 denier Cordura, which we suspect can survive a nuclear blast. Flyye provides the set with plenty of pouches. You can tell the Maritime version by the trigger at the top in the middle (left) which allows the vest to be quickly dropped in case of emergency (There is also a Land version). On the right, you can see that the CIRAS is clearly designed for the MOLLE era. There are loops all over the vest, you can attach pockets, pockets, and more pockets. And of course, SAPIs and soft armor belong inside the CIRAS. That's heavy duty.
Detail photo, upper part: At the top in the middle the trigger for the quick release system can be seen again. The set includes an admin panel (left) for maps, notepads, and pens, and a double pistol mag pouch.
At least four double mag pouches are strapped in front, included in the set. Eight magazines are the minimum requirement, usually twelve are carried. Or more...
On the side (left) there is a multipurpose pouch included. On the other side, there is a pouch for the MBITR radio, an IFAK pouch (for the medical kit), and a smoke grenade pouch, which can also hold many other items, not just smoke grenades.
At the top back, you can see the good padding of the straps that go over the shoulders. The carry handle is a grip to quickly drag away a wounded person. A standard feature on armor, you can also grab onto the shoulder strap without the risk of the wounded person slipping out of the plate carrier. And MOLLE, MOLLE, MOLLE as far as the eye can see... Unless it's covered by pockets.
Under a flap at the back, the often-copied quick release system: all the straps of the individual parts converge at one point, secured by a cable. When pulled at the front, the cable retracts and the vest falls apart into its individual pieces. It's quite fun to put it back together, but once you've done it, that's enough...
The inside is lined with mesh to prevent excessive sweating. Which is a noble wish in high temperatures and physical exertion... In real life, that's why lighter vests have become more popular - like the LBT-6094A, which offers the same storage space but with much less weight.
CONCLUSION: Usually, there's a lot of negative things to say about replica vests, but not with Flyye. This is a quality manufacturer that comes extremely close to the original in terms of craftsmanship, but at a fraction of the price. This replica of the CIRAS Maritime is so good that we would consider it fully operational for real-world use. Along with the extensive set of pouches, it's a real bargain. But that doesn't make it any lighter...
The Flyye Force Recon Vest Maritime Set with Pouches in Multicam or in ATACS-FG is available at SNIPER AS for 269 euros (excluding shipping). In Ranger Green the set costs only 198 euros.
