REVIEW: First Spear Fight Strap

12/18/2015By Redaktion

Minimalist plate carriers and chest rigs are currently trending. Of course, this also results in a reduced magazine capacity. Where once 8 magazines could be stored, now only 3-4 are visible. To compensate for this, First Spear offers the Fight Strap.

The Fight Strap is basically the interpretation of the US Army bandolier, which was used during the Vietnam War. It is a kind of shoulder bag for additional magazines that can be worn with a strap.

The Fight Strap is designed to lie flat against the body and can be worn on the side of the support hand. It holds five magazines and is available for the following types of magazines:

AR15 / M4 / G36 PMAG / HK33/53/93 – 5.56/223

AR10 / M14 / M110 / SCAR-H / HK91 / SR25 – 7.62/308

AK47 – 7.62x39

HK UMP – .45 ACP

HK MP5 – 9mm

FN P90 – 5.7x28

For those who need more, there is the modular version, where the strap can be equipped with pockets. This allows for adding not just extra magazines, but also medic gear, for example.

The common feature of all pre-configured Fight Straps is the design. A waist strap is attached to the back to prevent slipping up when retrieving a magazine. This is closed with a G-hook (see image above). At the front end, there is a carrying loop (top), allowing the strap to be pulled out of the backpack or to the front if carried in the back. The sling is sewn in place and not detachable, and it is adjustable in length.

The magazine pouches come with an elastic cord and flap. This allows for the pockets to be worn open or closed without the contents falling out.

In practical use, the Fight Strap proves to be effective as promised. The flat design does not interfere under the support arm and magazines are quickly accessible. Putting them back can be a bit fiddly, though.

CONCLUSION: A nice, flat strip of magazines for quick access and readiness. The First Spear Fight Strap expands the minimalist kit without causing any inconvenience, and due to its design, it fits perfectly in any backpack.

The Fight Strap is available in Black, Coyote Brown, Khaki, Ranger Green, and Multicam. It is available for the aforementioned weapon systems (223, 308, 7.62x39, 9mm, .45, and 5.7x28). In Germany, it can be purchased at TACWRK starting at €93,–.
