REVIEW: FFI Mas Grey Gen3 Combat Set EX. 2017

When Navy SEALs board a ship during a boarding mission, they usually wear a MAS Grey uniform. The color comes from another piece of equipment, a kind of "dry suit" that protects the special forces from water during maritime operations: the waterproof Maritime Assault Suit (MAS). And it's Grey. Matching this, there is a separate uniform from Bluewater Defense that has the same color. It looks like a Crye G3 set, but it's not and has a slightly flexible fabric. So, FFI is not delivering a clone here, but something that doesn't exist. Nevertheless, this G3 clone in MAS Grey is pretty well done.

Let's break down the equipment into its two parts: the Combat Shirt and the Pant. Here is the front of the shirt. The features correspond to the G3 Combat Shirt from Crye Precision.

It opens at the front with a zipper.

The high collar is striking. It protects against rifle slings, hot cartridge casings, and sunburn.

If it's too high, you can fold it down. This is how it's usually worn. And the threads on the collar reveal a small weakness in close combat with our Combat Shirt.

You can recognize the G3 at first glance by the sleeve pockets with the two Velcro strips.

The back is just the back. So far, so unspectacular.

The pants are also a professional clone. Classic pockets on top where you can put your hands ("American gloves").

Thigh pockets on the right and left.

And also two small front thigh pockets, as typical for Crye.

Inside, there are straps to adjust the height of the knee protectors.

Here they are already in place. By the way, original Crye knee pads in the clone pants. You can also see the 4-way stretch, which is good and stable in the replica.

In the back of the knee, straps with velcro ensure that the knee pads can be adjusted.

And at the bottom of the leg, there's the classic pocket for drivers... Well, in this case, more like boat drivers.

Now to the back. Here, you can see an expansion joint with 4-way stretch.
