REVIEW: EOTech G45 STS Magnifier

01/03/2024By Redaktion

The G45 Magnifier is the big brother of the G43 – HERE in the SPARTANAT Review –, with 5x magnification. In the end, the G45 Magnifier is once again the same length as the "old" G33 Magnifier. The G33 is available HERE in the SPARTANAT Review. Now let's take a closer look at it.

Overall, everything is of the same quality as the other two EOTech magnifiers. The adjustment of the lenses can be done without tools and the diopter adjustment is smooth. If desired, the rubber cover can be removed, saving a few grams, but risking scratches and the adjustment turrets protrude further.

The mounting is the same as with the G33 and G43 Magnifiers, and we are still very impressed by it.

STS stands for "Switch To Side", which explains the mounting mechanism clearly. From Unity Tactical, there is the Flip To Center Mount, which is becoming increasingly popular. But be careful, you also need a special mount or riser for the optics, as everything sits higher.

The reticle of the EOTech EXPS-2 without magnification. Behind it is the G45 STS Magnifier ready.

Same target, now 5 times bigger thanks to the magnifier. The image is clear and distortion-free. Due to the 5x magnification, the exit pupil, the area where you can see the image clearly, is smaller than with the 3x magnifier. Damn physics.

The real benefits of the G45 are only noticeable in direct comparison with its siblings. The G45 is in the middle, with the G43 on the left and the G33 on the right. The 5x magnifier is slightly shorter than the G33.

And noticeably longer than the G43 Magnifier. There's a good 3 cm difference here.

However, the G33 is the slimmest of all three. The two newer ones have a very similar diameter.

The lens of the G45 is roughly the same size as the G33.

With the ocular lens, they are all the same again. One could say that the G45 Magnifier offers a higher level of magnification compared to the old G33 while maintaining the same size. Whether you need this or not is up to you, but we say: "More is more."

CONCLUSION: Best quality at a reasonable price. Superior to the nearly identical predecessor G33 due to the higher magnification. Those looking for a compact 5x magnifier and are not afraid of the price will find what they are looking for with the G45 STS. Overall, a top optic.

HERE at IEA-Mil Optics you can order the G45 STS directly. The magnifier costs 780 euros.
