About a month ago, we introduced you to the Earmor M32H HERE. It was the first active hearing protection from Earmor, not quite to our satisfaction. But people are trying and striving for quality: Now we have the new version, the M32H MOD1, from TACSTORE.AT. We have critically tested it for you.
Unpacked, this time you get a little less accessories, but a hearing protection that works much better. Only the headset and a short instruction manual are included. So let's get straight to what's new.
The logo and all other inscriptions are now laser engraved. Operation is similar to the old version, simple thanks to the large buttons. A press on the center button turns the hearing protection on. Volume can be adjusted in five levels using the "Plus" and "Minus" buttons.
With the old set, we had some annoying background noise and distorted sound with noises, but the difference to the new MOD1 is like night and day. Background noise is now only very quiet in the background, even at the highest volume. The sound of speech and noises, including footsteps and clothing rubbing against each other, is much better. That's how it should be! The sound of Peltor Comtacs or MSA Sordins is not quite reached yet, but Earmor is close with the MOD1.
SPARTANAT is the online magazine for Military News, Tactical Life, Gear & Reviews. Each side has a compartment for the AAA battery. Therefore, you need two pieces, which are not included. With AAA, the active hearing protection has a battery life of 350 hours. Fortunately, the instructions on how to install them are engraved. The battery can easily be inserted into the compartment and removed again. The cap is quickly opened with a short twist. It is also secured with a rubber band to prevent it from getting lost.
Flexibility in radio communication, ideal for right and left-handed users: the microphone can be easily unplugged and mounted on either side.
There is a socket on each side for plugging in the microphone. All openings on the headset are protected from water with seals or rubber coatings, so the M32H MOD1 is also IPX-5 certified and can be safely used in the rain. It's not suitable for submersion, but that's not an issue.
Also redesigned is the ear cushion. It is now slightly firmer. The inside is now black and no longer printed. Despite this, the headset is comfortable to wear.
We have chosen the helmet variant for our model. Was it – see previous review – previously a major flaw that the adapters were too loose, this was fortunately corrected in the new MOD1 version. A new design provides better grip and a secure fit on our genuine Ops-Core Fast Base Jump Helmet. The new adapters also fit without problems on our Emerson China helmet.
The new helmet adapters are not only smaller and slimmer, they can also be rotated. This allows the hearing protection to be turned backwards, allowing the head to relax a bit. This also makes it easier to put on and take off the helmet.
Bottom view of the adapters. You can see the notch where the temple bar snaps in when the headset is straight. Simply push it outwards and it can be turned. However, the clamping pressure of the hearing protection could be somewhat stronger in general.
As mentioned, the adapters now fit much better. They also snap in better. To move them, the plastic lock must be pushed up until it fits against the body of the adapter. This is good because the user does not have to worry about overstraining it and possibly breaking it.
This is how they look on the back. The workmanship is much better than the first version we saw.
Lastly, let's take a look at the interior. The ear cups can be easily disassembled with a slotted screwdriver. This clearly shows how thick the outer shell is.
