Bullpup has clear advantages. The positioning of the ejection port behind the grip is not one of them. The Steyr AUG does not have a "deflector," unlike weapons in the AR15 line, which means that when shooting, the hot cartridge jumps out to the right. That's okay for right-handed shooters, but when switching to the left, your own face becomes the brass catcher. Corvus Defensio - we have already introduced the company and its innovative product portfolio for the Steyr AUG HERE - has solved this problem with a screw-in deflector.
The raven is the pretty logo of Corvus Defensio and this is the complete deflector, which is made up of two parts.
On the left is the actual deflector, which accepts two set screws, viewed from the back. On the right is the U-shaped counterpart, which the deflector is clamped into the ejection port.
So you don't have to change or modify anything on the weapon body, which is good and important. The small hooks on both parts make installation easy, as the deflector simply gets wedged in.
Simply hook the aluminum U in and, of course, have thread lock ready. The set screws are coated with it before being inserted into the other piece.
Then tighten the two screws firmly. It's important to have a feel for this, otherwise, the "U" can bend. If that happens: simply loosen it a bit, everything will straighten out again.
Five minutes of work, and the weapon is like new. Here is the deflector seen from below. It can only be mounted on the right side and on all AUGs, except for the 9mm version.
CONCLUSION: A great piece that is worth every penny. The Corvus Defensio deflector fixes the biggest flaw of the Steyr AUG with a simple and practical solution. Amazing that it took so long for this to come out...
You can get the Corvus Defensio deflector directly from the manufacturer for 95 euros.
