REVIEW: Carinthia MIG 3.0

"Brace yourself! Winter is coming." We did that, long before winter. And how can a man better prepare than with a decent winter jacket from Carinthia? It's been around for a while and is now already on the market in the revised version as MIG 3.0. We at SPARTANAT took a look at it for you. The 3.0 version is mainly distinguished by a pleasant feature: it is longer. Seen from the front and worn gathered, it doesn't stand out so much... ... but comparing from the back ensures that the cold has no chance even around the buttocks. With a drawstring, the wearer can also tighten the jacket at the bottom edge. The MIG 3.0 has the advantage that the wearer can wear it hip-high by folding it (left), or leave it long (right). The previous model was usually worn short. This is practical, as the wearer can use the pockets as "American gloves." But at a certain temperature, short isn't fun unless paired with thermal pants from Carinthia. Here, that's not the case and not necessary. Because we cheat: we wear the UF-PRO P40 pants in the picture in winter with the nice comfortable Windstopper Lining - HERE is the review - an excellent solution to turn tactical pants into useful winter pants. But let's start from the top: Winter is hood time. Even if you wear a cap underneath. Carinthia is large and spacious but can also be adjusted to fit snugly, especially when the hood is adjusted. The hood can be adjusted at the back of the head with a drawstring, so that it fits snugly around the head and moves with the face turning. Good for visibility, practical when it's stormy and the wind is blowing hard, but most of the time we prefer a beanie in winter and save the hood for particularly bad weather. It would be uncomfortable if the jacket let in drafts from the top. The collar is wide, but has the same flexibility as the hood: it can be tightened with a drawstring to close nicely around the chin. Add a scarf underneath and everything is ready for the harsh winter. Even tough men and women want it cozy. Inside is a warm fleece lining, whose gentle touches always delight in winter. Speaking of women: they too like powerful shoulders. This makes the MIG 3.0 great because it now has Cordura patches at key points. The shoulders are important since they are strained by backpacks or shoulder straps. A good improvement... But back to basics: pockets are extremely important in such a jacket. In front, you'll find two super accessible, fairly large outer pockets. Inside, there is fleece, the idea being that you can hide and warm your hands here. We find the pocket a bit too high for that. All zippers are waterproof, and the pull tabs are made of fabric. On the upper arms, there is a pocket on each side, with a very subtle Velcro in a matching color. Yes, the patch here is from ITS Tactical. The gray phantom goes perfectly with the stylish gray Carinthia MIG 3.0.
