Getting night vision devices on the helmet is a bit of a challenge. The best Rhinos – rhinoceros-shaped folding parts for attaching and detaching night vision goggles or monoculars – essentially come from the USA. And with the export regulation ITAR they make those who want to procure them and are not a government themselves very unhappy. At ACTinblack there is now a Low Profile Mount from Cadex Defence, which is freely available. We took a look at it for you. Codex looks like a compact Wilcox, to put it plainly. The adjustability is also the same. Up and down as a whole, because the eye-to-helmet edge ratio can vary. And a flexible slide to bring the night vision device to the eyes.
Folding down is simply done by pressing down, then the rhino lowers its horn. It is secured against unfolding, so simply press the button on the left, then it goes back up with the night vision device.
Here it is already folded down and hooked in. With the small lever on the right, the angle of inclination can be adjusted so that you can look well and straight through the night vision device.
Underside: Yes, it is a dovetail. The triangular mounting plates provide a secure hold and are much better than the bayonet connectors on previous models like PVS7/14. They have become the standard among Western Special Forces at the moment.
The plate that goes into the shroud. For the Canadian, where Cadex Defence comes from, as well as the American. The little levers on the right and left secure it in the shroud, are on the underside of the mount.
When folded up on the helmet, a nice flat profile is created. The entire Rhino is made of lightweight titanium.
For people who need to work with night vision devices with mounts other than dovetail, there are also special adapters, thankfully.
Here the bayonet adapter is attached to the dovetail. Now a monocular like the PVS14 with J-Arm fits perfectly on the Cadex Low Profile Mount.
But as they say, two is better: here is a PVS15 in the raised position, with a dovetail on the Cadex.
CONCLUSION: The Rhino from Cadex Defence is top-notch, as they say. This is reflected in the price, but it is in line with the fact that you want your night vision device to be securely and perfectly mounted. The Cadex Arm is readily available and a professional solution for all those who rely on US standards and do not want to be bothered by Wilcox, thanks to ACTinblack from Luxembourg.
The Low Profile Mount from Cadex is available at ACTinblack for 599.95 euros. The Adapter to switch from Dovetail to bayonet connection costs 129.95 euros.
