Compensators on rifles have the disadvantage that they blow out everything sideways that the neighbor doesn't want. Powder smoke, noise, and pressure are not pleasant for people. A linear compensator provides a remedy: we take a look at the B&T Blast Deflector Rotex-V, which we use here with a civilian Steyr AUG A3Z.
This is what the good piece looks like on the rifle. Resembles a suppressor, like the very good ones from B&T. However, this device does not have a sound-dampening function, so it is freely available (in Austria).
Here are the technical data:
Caliber: .223 - .308 (5.56mm - 7.62mm)
Attachment: NATO muzzle brake
Length: 92mm
Diameter: 39mm
Change in weapon length: 45mm
Weight: 266g
Material: Stainless steel
Special feature: integrated glass breaker
Surface treatment: sandblasted
And it's also a fun toy: you can disassemble the B&T Blast Deflector.
Here you can already see the thread, and the end piece is the Rotex-V mount, so it fits on all NATO/Rotex-V compatible muzzle brakes and compensators in calibers .223 (5.56mm) and .308 (7.62 mm). There is also a second, different version from B&T, which is for Rotex-IIA compatible muzzle brakes and compensators and looks a bit different, HERE to see.
This is the locking mechanism on the B&T Blast Deflector Rotex-V. The Rotex-IIA is screwed in and used, for example, with Surefire Comps.
Look through the device and you can also see the breech block closure, which attaches the linear comp to the regular comp. You can watch this in action in the video.
This is where what needs to happen happens: the pressure is directed forward, that's why it's a beautifully crafted, solid steel part.
The chamber is divided towards the front. The tips can also function as glass breakers if you need to break glass.
When assembling, there is still a small ratchet inside that locks in the right position, so that everything is firmly in the end. Nobody wants a part with play at the working end of the weapon.
So, attach the B&T Blast Deflector Rotex-V to the compensator, lock it, and then screw it on the front until everything is tight.
It also makes the weapon look nicer, we think. It looks so ... professional even if it's not a suppressor...
Front view. Here everything is still clean. The two-piece version is also fine if you want to clean the device later.
The B&T Blast Deflector Rotex-V in action. Here it proves to be a real fire hog. And you can stand next to the shooter without getting a freshly pulled parting.
CONCLUSION: A small and practical piece for the shooter, which helps protect and preserve the fellow shooter. Instead of affecting the surroundings with all the byproducts of shooting, now everything goes out straight and directly.
You can get the B&T Blast Deflector Rotex-V through TACSTORE. It costs 219.95 euros there. In Switzerland, the Blast Deflector is available directly from B&T for 209 CHF.
