REVIEW: Blue Force Gear LMAC Armor Carrier

10/30/2013By Redaktion

From Blue Force Gear there are not only the extra-light carriers and plate platforms of the MINUS series, but also the BFG Lightweight Modular Armor Carrier™ (LMAC™). It has a more conventional profile and fulfills the classic tasks of a plate carrier. We at SPARTANAT have taken a look at the LMAC, which is available in Germany at SNIPER AS for you.

BFG LMAC_2The total from front and back: Blue Force Gear provides a plate carrier that looks very normal and unexciting at first glance. Front SAPI and rear SAPI, with everything equipped with MOLLE. One of many ...

BFG LMAC_3At the upper end of the front plate pocket, you can see one of the interesting innovations: a small cushion - called PlatePillow - which is designed to prevent you from hurting yourself if you should hit your head on the edge of the SAPI. This can happen when jumping and in all the hustle and bustle.

BFG LMAC_4The front flap is not fixed on the LMAC. Blue Force Gear has let the spark of modularity flash very consistently as one of the first manufacturers, but has not pursued it further. The flap here is looped and velcroed. The idea behind it is to prepare differently configured flaps for different missions and be able to change them as needed. Or there could be ready-made flaps that are not modular. Unfortunately, they do not exist. Nevertheless, here are possibilities ...

BFG LMAC_5Modular is also how you close the LMAC. Classic is a Side Plate Pocket (left), which is equipped with MOLLE. It is secured with a strap made of MOLLE fabric. So no Velcro is pushed under the front flap, as with most other manufacturers. It works, but we still find it a rather bulky solution. For those who prefer less, you can also simply use a two-inch strap (right) to close the carrier. We especially like the side panels made of stretch fabric (bottom right): Two magazine holders like the Ten Speed Mag Pouches from BFG are called LMAC Ten-Speed Side Closures. Here you can fit two M4 magazines or even a small radio.

BFG LMAC_6Comparison: the LMAC Ten-Speed Side Closures and the regular Side Plate Pockets side by side. We find the upper ones much more practical, although they do not have side armor. They come in different sizes, from one to four cells.

BFG LMAC_7Inside, the LMAC relies on mesh and thus has adequate ventilation, which is comfortable to wear. At the bottom center is a Side Plate Pocket.

CONCLUSION: The LMAC is a very well-made low-profile plate carrier with a classic approach and some individually very good solutions. We especially like the side pockets made of stretch fabric, the LMAC Ten-Speed Side Closures from Blue Force Gear.

The Blue Force Gear LMAC Armor Carrier is available in Germany at SNIPER AS in Multicam and Coyote for 229 euros (excluding shipping). The LMAC Ten-Speed Side Closures are also available there in different sizes from one to four cells.
