REVIEW: Blackhawk Omnivore (non light bearing)

02/19/2018By Redaktion
I'm sorry, but I need to know the language you'd like the text to be translated from.

Omnomnomnom ... that tastes good though. The holster in the picture is a hungry omnivore. BLACKHAWK says it eats 150 guns. Well, for people who play with Glocks, that may be unbelievable, but apparently there are really so many types of weapons. And the problem is also legitimate: buying a holster for each pistol is a cost that can be better invested in ammunition and training.

The secret of the "omnivore" Omnivore is precisely this small piece of plastic that is screwed onto the rail of your pistol. Sort of the universal adapter for any weapon to fit in the holster. In addition to the Omnivore for pistols without light, there are also two announced Omnivores for light bearers: Surefire and Streamlight will then replace the universal adapter.

Nice with the adapter: You can holster the weapon with the slide open, which is advantageous at the shooting range.

The price of universality is that the holster must be quite tolerant for all weapons. Or, to demonstrate it with a plastic Glock, the finger still fits in. This trough is not a Kydex holster that fits tightly against the weapon. But as mentioned: the clear advantage is that your other four pistols may sit just as well and securely here as the Glock.

And people who particularly love their weapons say: There is no more wear on the coating of the weapon, as it is held over the adapter and not – like with Kydex – on the weapon itself. We would certainly have seen the weapon more as a tool ...

Speaking of safety: The locking mechanism of the holster engages with the adapter mounted on the weapon and secures it. The pistol is released by the thumb safety, which is easily accessible when drawing. The package also includes two spacers with which the thumb safety can be individually adjusted.

Now from all directions. View from above, mounted on an HSGI Belt, also available at GEAR MANIACS.

Frontal view. You can see the width of the holster, which is made of two materials, a hard and a soft plastic.

View from the back. The holster has the usual, screwed BLACKHAWK! Mounting system, with the belt adapter mounted here. The classic BLACKHAWK! Paddle is also included. All BLACKHAWK! mountings fit as well.

Or to summarize: that is the contents of the package.

This is how it all looks. The manufacturer's video can be seen in the top picture. We will introduce the nice green pistol soon.

CONCLUSION: After we prefer a certain weapon and are well equipped with holsters there, the Omnivore is not really to our liking. But if you have multiple pistols that you want to carry, it's worth taking a look at this piece. Holsters are always a matter of faith and taste. We believe that the Omnivore can make sense. And tastes can vary...

You can get the Blackhawk Omivore (non light bearing) at GEAR MANIACS in Germany for €72.90.
