REVIEW: BLACK TRIDENT IFAK-Trauma Burrito

05/17/2024By Redaktion

An IFAK is important and can save lives in an emergency. It must be easily accessible and securely store medical products. Today we want to take a detailed look at the new IFAK bag from BLACK TRIDENT, the Trauma Burrito.

The predecessor was the TFC KIT – HERE IN REVIEW – which is unfortunately no longer being produced, as the Trauma Burrito is its successor.

Burritos are rolled, as is the Trauma Burrito. It consists of two parts, the IFAK bag and the mounting platform.

We have also made a video about the Trauma Burrito, where you can join us for our first loadout.

IFAK Bag

When the velcro on the IFAK Burrito is released and unrolled, it looks like this.

At the top end, either the CABCDE or MARCH scheme is engraved. In a stressful situation, this is never completely wrong, as basic things can be forgotten. When purchasing, you can of course choose whether you want CABCDE or MARCH. In our opinion, it's a matter of taste or training, as the content of both schemes is essentially the same.

Behind that, you have a flat compartment for patient cards or rubber gloves. There is also an eyelet where you can thread a paracord loop. The red paracord is included in the delivery.

Very well thought out, the opening tab is a loop that can hold a glow stick. This illuminates the contents in the dark.

Beneath the velcroed stretch material is the actual IFAK content.

In the IFAK Trauma Burrito, you have a lot of organizational options available. As can be seen, there are numerous holes through which round rubber can be threaded. The seven rubber loops with cord stoppers are included in the delivery. You have to attach them yourself.

The most difficult part is always fitting the Chest Seal in an IFAK. Especially when it's one with a valve, like the SAM Chest Seal in the picture.

However, in the Trauma Burrito, this is not a problem. The Chest Seal is simply slid behind the hole reinforcement strips. It can also be easily and quickly removed.

The rest of the contents is simply attached with the round rubber loops. Here, you usually have to play around a bit longer until the perfect place for everything is found. In the end, the Burrito is rolled up again.

On the back of the IFAK Trauma Burrito, there is a hook and loop area sewn. This is used for attachment to the mounting platforms. Yes, you read that correctly, plural, because there are a total of four.

Mounting Platforms

In principle, they all look very similar. Inside, there is a wide Velcro strip and a buckle.

On the outside, there is the BLACK TRIDENT logo and more holes and two slots. You could use these to attach a tourniquet with shock cord, for example.

However, they differ from each other on the back. Here is the belt platform. Two sturdy, 50 mm loops with Velcro ensure a secure hold on the belt.

The MOLLE module is different from traditional MOLLE pouches. Here, Malice Clips are used, which is not unusual, but the absence of classic MOLLE/PALS loops is noticeable. The clips are actually screwed in.

Thanks to a hidden stiffening under the Cordura, this holds very securely. Depending on whether you want to attach the platform horizontally or vertically, you will use the long or the short Malice Clips. In the image, you can see the short one for horizontal mounting.

The third one is the Dangler Mount. Here, the platform is simply Velcroed onto the plate carrier. Now you can carry the IFAK Trauma Burrito dangling along with you.

Finally, there is the tactical fanny pack platform. We personally like this a lot, as it allows the Burrito Standalone to be worn. Definitely interesting for hunting.

As mentioned earlier, merging the Burrito and mounting platform is very simple. Just velcro the Burrito in place and close the buckle. It doesn't matter if you insert the Burrito with the opening facing down or up, both hold equally well.

This is what the complete IFAK looks like. Depending on the loadout and medical products used, the roll can get a bit thicker. But with the number of products usually carried in the IFAK, a secure hold is always possible.

CONCLUSION: With the IFAK-Trauma Burrito, the guys from BLACK TRIDENT have further improved an already very good IFAK bag. With the Trauma Burrito, you can quickly and orderly access the contents, and especially the Chest Seal is a dream to remove. It also doesn't get creased, thanks to the rolling. Overall, an innovative way to carry life-saving items readily accessible.

The IFAK - Trauma Burrito is available directly from BLACK TRIDENT in six colors. The covers start at 35.90 euros, and the inner pouch, the Burrito, starts at 79.90 euros.
