REVIEW: Benchmade SOCP Dagger

10/25/2016By Redaktion

This is awesome. And nothing describes the SOCP Dagger by Benchmade better. Not spreading butter, not carving. This is about stabbing, solely about stabbing. The SOCP Dagger was developed with the American Special Operations Combatives Program. The knife is a "Last Ditch Defense", designed to be an emergency defense in close combat, allowing you to create distance between yourself and the opponent, either to escape or to switch to a pistol.

We opted for the combo, so knife and trainer together. In the box, you get a knife with a sheath, trainer, two cords, and a brochure. It rhymes, and what rhymes is usually good.

Trainer and knife together. It makes sense to take both, even though you can also get the Dagger alone. But we don't want to practice with it, it's all stabbing and cutting and too dangerous. 18 centimeters long, a little over eight centimeters blade. Only "full tang", without any handle scales. Classic 440C steel and 62 grams in weight. The application is simple: the index finger goes through the ring, with a thumb rest at the back. Pull! It's all about stabbing, have we mentioned that already?

The Dagger comes with a very interesting sheath, made of plastic and with a clip like a fountain pen, allowing the knife to be carried anywhere.

Wavy at the front, completely smooth at the back. The dagger disappears into the sheath except for the ring, which is available in black or tan. We chose black because it's less noticeable in civilian attire. And when it comes to gear, the sheath can be quickly adapted with Krylon.

Here again, the entire sheath from the front. It fits in civilian pants as well as in the MOLLE loops of the plate carrier. Two strips of Paracord are included to tie the sheath if necessary.

Special Operations Combatives Program. There is an enhanced version of the dagger with saw teeth on one side, so theoretically you could also cut something with it. And a new belt cutter tool, which looks the same as the SOCP Dagger, and is intended for less lethal self-defense. The SOCP Dagger in its original form is so classic in its dagger shape that we chose it. Very similar, but with a different sheath: the CQB Tool from Spartan Blades (also in the SPARTANAT Review here).

The Benchmade SOCP Dagger is available with trainer in the combo for 145 dollars.

Tastelessly dressed, but a training video showing applications in hazardous situations.
