REVIEW: Be-X Ranger II Tarp

01/07/2012By Redaktion

If you want to camp in the great outdoors, you are always faced with the question of what to take: a tent or a tarp? A tarp - in good German: a tarpaulin - has the advantage of variable setup compared to a tent. However, tarps are often too small to effectively accommodate two people. A good alternative is the Ranger II Tarp from Begadi.

The tarp, measuring almost 3x3 meters, is made of SilNylon, which is essentially ripstop nylon with a silicone coating. This makes it very lightweight, yet extremely durable, waterproof, and translucent. There are a total of twelve attachment points, made as simple loops. It is worth mentioning the two in the middle of the tarp, allowing it to be hung as a whole on a line, a real advantage.

In this picture, the size of the enclosed space is clearly visible. Here, two people can lie relatively comfortably side by side. Of course, there are ways to set up the tarp even flatter, allowing for three people to lie side by side. The ripstop fabric of the nylon and the good light transmission mentioned earlier are also clearly visible (not suitable for people who like to sleep in longer in the morning :).

Here is a picture for size comparison. With a bit of stuffing, the entire tarp fits relatively loosely into a small dust bag. For size comparison, we have placed an M4 magazine next to it. With the bag, the weight is only 455g.

CONCLUSION: A really good tarp. It impresses with the attachment points in the center of the tarp, the low weight, and the small pack size. With it, there's nothing stopping you from the next overnight stay in the field.

The Be-X Ranger II Tarp is available at Begadi for 44.90€ excluding shipping.
