Winter is approaching rapidly, so it's jacket time again. But even in some summer nights, it's not wrong to have a jacket with you, preferably a functional jacket or a softshell. Be-X now has one available, and we at SPARTANAT have taken a look at it for you:

The jacket has 5 pockets (2 chest, 2 sleeve, and 1 back pocket) providing enough storage space for anything you might need. The design is well thought out, as it is extended in the seat area to avoid any gaps or exposure when bending over. It can be tightened around the waist with an elastic band. The material is water-repellent but not waterproof. It will keep you dry in a light rain, but not in a heavy downpour, but that's not what it's designed for.

Another nice detail is the stand-up collar that can be closed with a Velcro strap. Generous ventilation openings are incorporated under the arms. To prevent insects or large dirt from entering the jacket, the openings are covered with a mesh. The sleeve cut in size "M reg" is a bit large, but likely intended if you want to wear a fleece jacket underneath.

Now let's take a closer look at the pockets. The chest pockets are very spacious and equipped with a D-ring to attach important items. Above the pockets, two Velcro strips are attached for name patches, etc. The back pocket also offers a lot of storage space and is positioned in a way that it can still be used effectively even with a plate carrier. The zippered sleeve pockets are equipped with a large Velcro area. On this Velcro area, there is also an IFF reflector that can be concealed if desired.

Here is a side view and a look at the unspectacular interior. There is a compartment for padding inserts on the sleeve undersides. These inserts are included and work well if you intend to bump into things. However, under heavier stress (crawling on gravel), we fear the fabric will soon give out. This jacket is labeled "Lightweight," hence the thin fabric.

CONCLUSION: A well-made jacket with excellent value for money that delivers what it promises. Lightweight is intentional, and the appealing design is tactically practical. To enhance rain protection, an impregnating spray can be used. A recommendation for outdoor and urban use.

Available at Begadi in Black, Tan, and OD for €59.60 excluding shipping
