REVIEW: Apto Gear Assault Backpanel

Plate carriers are shrinking but equipment requirements remain constant. Solutions include backpacks or expanding plate carrier backs with panels like Apto Gear's Assault Backpanel. This USA-made accessory offers additional storage and functionality, making it a practical and well-crafted enhancement for carriers. Available for $170 directly from the manufacturer until August 1st.

The problem is more than simple: the plate carriers are getting smaller, but the equipment still needs to come along. Some prefer backpacks (such as a daypack like the Yote or the Beavertail or a TAG Combat Sustainment Pack), while others choose to expand the back of the plate carrier with a panel. In the image above, you can see the Assault Backpanel from Apto Gear, a small gear forge from the USA.

Apto Gear Assault Pack_6The entire panel can be opened at the top and also functions as a pocket for a hydration bladder, which is hung at the top.

Apto Gear Assault Pack_3Apto has chosen a classic layout for the back. Three magazine pockets at the top, but with the clips mounted upside down.

Apto Gear Assault Pack_4What doesn't fit in the front, fits in the back: 6 magazines, smoke, and other accessories fit on the back. Of course, this needs to be accessed by the following person. These magazine pockets cannot be reached manually.

Apto Gear Assault Pack_5Underneath lies a utility pouch, in which jackets, MREs, or other equipment that needs to be taken along can fit.

CONCLUSION: Small, practical, and well-made. The Assault Backpanel from Apto Gear is an efficient addition to the carrier.

You can get the Apto Gear Assault Backpanel directly from the manufacturer for $170. Apto Gear can be found HERE on FACEBOOK. (Note: they are only taking orders until August 1st because they are discontinuing production.)
