When it gets cold, always wear a sweater. In the tactical segment, these are no longer quite as common since there is fleece in all variations, especially because fleece provides better weight results than original wool. Still, sweaters are great. We got our hands on the 5.11 Tactical 1/4 Zip Sweater and put it to the test. At first glance (above): a very stylish and nicely tactical sweater, here also in the appealing color Gunpowder Grey.

Logo? Of course, that's the logo of 5.11 Tactical on the neck. You can see a high collar and abrasion protection on the shoulders.

A high collar keeps you warm when closed. There is a color contrast on the zipper pull, orange is the lead color of 5.11 Tactical. The zipper opens the sweater a quarter of the way from the top.

Also practical is the chest pocket. Not only because it can increase your ego in the Napoleon style, but simply because you can store necessary items in your chest pocket.

The sleeves close with elastic cuffs. And there is also a logo, spelled out here. Of course...

The elastic band is also the finishing touch at the bottom. So it doesn't whistle in, at least not from down there.

The inside of the sweater is very fluffy. This is due to the material, as it is not Merino wool or sheep wool on the outside, but simply plastic, hence inside it is exactly like fleece.

There is also a back pocket that lies across the buttocks and would hold approximately an A4 notebook. Practical for when you are lying in wait and still need to access something. Access is only from one side, from the right.

And abrasion-resistant coatings on shoulder ...

... and elbows. This gives it a very characteristic appearance. And you don't have to worry about the wearer ruining the sweater when putting on a backpack or leaning on something.

CONCLUSION: The 5.11 Tactical 1/4 Zip Sweater is a great sweater in a classic design and with a great appearance. It is fluffy and pleasant to look at. It's a bit of a shame that it's not windproof. When it's windy, it goes right through. But normally you would wear the sweater under a windbreaker, or soft or hard shell.
