REVIEW: 5.11 LDE Tanto and BTC Recurve Tanto

04/12/2014By Redaktion

A good pocket knife belongs in every man's pants, little has changed about that. Small and fine knives from 5.11 Tactical are versatile and practical to carry. Today we are taking a look at the LDE Tanto (top) and the BTC Recurved Tanto (bottom). Both look the same externally: relatively wide with plastic handles and a belt clip that can be mounted on either side. The 5.11 logo is also visible on the handle. Each pack includes three spare screws for the handles and three for the belt clip, as well as a matching Allen key. In our experience, after about six months, you may need to tighten the screws or secure them beforehand with blue Locktite. The knives fit very well in the hand and are also very easy to handle. The blade can be quickly opened with the thumb, the blade lifter makes the knives less usable for our German friends. They are securely locked with a Liner Lock. The LDE blade is an exaggerated Tanto. Very solid and hefty. We were pleased to see how well this blade shape has proven itself in everyday use. It can handle everything from packages to apples. The blade is 7.2 centimeters long. The knife is 10.2 cm in the closed position. The BTC Recurved Tanto is slightly curved, with a significantly narrower blade. This makes it more comfortable to cut, especially when it comes to apples. The blade shape gives it a somewhat menacing look. The belt clip is really nicely designed. The dent in the clip helps to grip the knife securely and efficiently pull it out.

CONCLUSION: 5.11 LDE and BTC are good knives for everyday use, efficient and eye-catching due to their shape. The LDE Tanto is quite massive for its size. In our experience, the BTC Recurved Tanto has proven to be more practical for the cutting tasks in everyday use.

You can find the 5.11 LDE Tanto and 5.11 BTC Recurve Tanto for example at BLACK SHADOW for 29.95 euros each (excluding shipping).
