The Walther PP, carried by Sean Connery in his first Bond film "James Bond - 007 hunts Dr. No", was recently auctioned by Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills for over a quarter of a million dollars. In the film, the weapon is introduced by "M" (Bernard Lee) as a Walther PPK, but in reality Connery carried this Walther PP, which then became the standard equipment for many Bond heroes. In 1929, Carl Walther introduced the Walther PP - Police Pistol - to the public. Primarily manufactured in caliber 7.65 (.32 ACP), it was far ahead of its time in terms of design and ergonomics, thus becoming the first global success of its creator Fritz Walther. Approximately one million units of the Walther PP have been produced since its introduction.
However, even more iconic than the Walther PP is the Walther PPK -
Police Pistol Criminal, introduced by Walther in 1931. Over 500,000 units have been produced since then. It is considered "the" style icon of German pistol construction and the pioneer of concealed carry pistols, known in English as "concealed carry". Due to its unique silhouette and flowing shapes, it is still considered the most beautiful pistol ever built. The demand for the Walther PPK remains high, especially in the United States where it sells in very high numbers. Every collector worth their salt must own a PPK.
