On the way to the south - through Slovenia to the Croatian coast - and still have time for a little stopover? Or have nothing planned yet and looking for a suitable travel destination? We have just the right thing for you. Namely, the Park of Military History in Pivka. On the spacious grounds of a former barracks, you get an insight into the military history of Slovenia and can admire numerous exhibits - including tanks, aircraft, and even a submarine.
The whole exhibition is roughly thematically organized. One area on the grounds is dedicated to the War of Independence in 1991. You will find mainly equipment and vehicles of the Yugoslav People's Army there.
A submarine has also found its way into the exhibition. The P-913 ZETA is 19 meters long, 76 tons heavy, and was part of the Yugoslav fleet.
Here is the interior of the boat. And all this is located in the Slovenian inland.
Highlights of the exhibition include a MiG-21 and various Yugoslav tanks.
A separate vehicle exhibition is dedicated to all steel giants from the partisan struggle in World War II to the War of Independence in 1991. There are also some American vehicles provided as part of the military aid in the 1950s.
Artillery enthusiasts will also get their money's worth here, with Long Tom and SU-100 peacefully side by side.
The grounds also house underground fortifications, which can be reached via a nature trail.
We hope we could awaken your interest. The grounds are really extensive and equipped with interesting exhibits on the military history of the country. A detour is definitely worthwhile. You can find the location of the complex below or in the link at the beginning of the article.
