QUICKSHIELD protects you

07/31/2025By Hubert

The buckler, or "hand shield" as it is known in German, is familiar to some. This medieval protection solution still works well and is now available in modern materials as QUICKSHIELD. Florian Dehler, the inventor of QUICKSHIELD, can look back on a long martial arts experience with Kung Fu Dragon and WKA kickboxing – including World Championship participation. He developed a compact, intuitive, and practical protection solution to give people a real chance to protect themselves effectively in an emergency. We would like to introduce you to the QUICKSHIELD in detail.

Background on the Buckler/Hand Shield

A buckler (French "bouclier", "shield", from Old French "bocle", "boucle", "buckler") is a small shield with a diameter of up to 45 cm, held with the fist behind the boss. Its origin derives from the shield boss already present on Roman shields. The buckler was used in the 13th and 14th centuries, on foot, on horseback, and together with the sword. It was used from the High Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The Manuscript I.33, a fencing manual from the 13th century, is the most extensive source on the buckler.

The QUICKSHIELD

At the ENFORCE TAC 2025, the QUICKSHIELD was demonstrated by Florian Dehler.

The modern buckler is made from polycarbonate reinforced with fiberglass and is "Made in Austria". Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic characterized by high heat resistance and impact strength and becomes even stiffer and stronger with fiberglass reinforcement.

The 190 x 190 mm QUICKSHIELD weighs only 300 g and is said by the manufacturer to withstand 20 joules against stabbing weapons and 100 joules against blunt weapons and projectiles.

The grip, consisting of a Velcro system, enables easy handling and can be adjusted to the user's hand size.

A soft pad protects the palm. It is located between the grip and the shield and also absorbs impact energy.

The Equipment

The QUICKSHIELD can be ordered in bare form as well as in combination with a bag. The scope of delivery includes a transport pouch, instructions, the QUICKSHIELD with bag, and a foam training knife.

We have decided on the QUICKSHIELD Tactical Clam Set.

The 210 x 230 x 90 mm bag has laser-cut MOLLE/PALS slots on the front.

An external pocket is accessible via a velcro cover, which can be easily opened and closed.

Flat objects such as notepads, warning pads, writing utensils, and other small items fit in them. And, of course, a good book.

A velcro surface measuring 155 x 50 mm is provided for attaching patches and identification badges.

The main compartment can be opened completely in clamshell style, which is particularly practical when you need more space for your things.

The interior of the main compartment is lined with soft velcro. Various items can be attached with velcro, such as an identification patch.

On the back, there are a D-ring and velcro straps for rubber loops at the sides and bottom. Various EDC or operational tools can be attached here.

A pull line can be attached on the inside using velcro.

Simply pull hard on the strap at the top in the middle to make the contents visible and accessible.

The QUICKSHIELD finds its place at the rear. It can be removed at any time.

The rear, laser-cut MOLLE slots are a practical feature that allows you to attach various accessories like keychains or flashlights.

The Additional Mount is a holder for MOLLE/PALS compatible vests.

Halterung

The QUICKSHIELD sits securely on the vest. This allows you to run quickly without the QUICKSHIELD Tactical Clam Set wobbling.

Fidlock

The bag and QUICKSHIELD can be attached to the MOLLE holster by coupling it with a quick-release SNAP-Pull mount from FIDLOCK.

MOLLE

The QUICKSHIELD can be easily attached to the MOLLE vest or belt with the MOLLE holster.

FIDLOCK 2

The QUICKSHIELD only needs to be pulled forward firmly to be put in position.

In practice

We took the opportunity to test the QUICKSHIELD extensively. To do this, we attacked the bare QUICKSHIELD with steel and wooden training weapons, as well as with sharp, very pointed knives and physical force. Nothing is staged here; everything is done in a realistic manner.

Buckler 9

Safety comes first, both in training and in testing. We use training weapons and protective equipment.

QS vs Stich

QUICKSHIELD versus stabs with the CCK-01 Gen2 knife from HALFBREED BLADES.

QS vs Schnitt

QUICKSHIELD versus cuts with a knife. Apart from scratches, not much happens.

Buckler 6

However, the QUICKSHIELD can also be used more offensively. Here it is used as a defensive weapon against the attacker, keyword ‘shield thrust’.

Buckler 4

Blocking an elbow strike in close combat is almost child's play.

Buckler 7 (1)

Defending against a kick with the QUICKSHIELD is also no problem.

Buckler 10

Punches to the buckler can be stopped effectively and efficiently, while protecting your own hand.

QS vs EKA

QUICKSHIELD versus EKA (short, extendable baton) from BONOWI.

QuickShield

The QUICKSHIELD, made of polycarbonate with glass fibre reinforcement, withstands stress perfectly.

CONCLUSION

Attacks with knives and other sharp objects on law enforcement officers, police, security services and emergency services are on the rise. Florian Dehler's idea with the QUICKSHIELD is a solution to effectively protect and defend against these threats and attacks.

Back in the 1990s, Eskrima grandmaster Bill Newman set himself the goal of introducing the buckler to security agencies in conjunction with Escrima training. However, this goal was not pursued further. The QUICKSHIELD protection solution is compact, intuitive and suitable for everyday use. It provides real protection against attacks with weapons such as knives, syringes, sharp objects and spit. QUICKSHIELD is already being used by security and law enforcement agencies at home and abroad.

QUICKSHIELD will be present again this year at the 19th International Federal Seminar for Police and Authorities 2025 (IBPB).

The Buckler can be purchased directly from QUICKSHIELD. The bare version costs EUR 144 and the various sets cost EUR 249.
