The Borsuk, the next generation infantry fighting vehicle for Poland, is moving closer to serial production. The Borsuk was presented to Polish defense ministers and army commanders in mid-June as part of the Dragon-21 exercise series at the Nowa Deba training ground.
The Borsuk was developed by the subsidiary Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) of the Polish Armament Group (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa - PGZ). The first prototype was tested in the fourth quarter of 2020 at the Drawsko training ground, where driving characteristics and shooting tests were conducted. All information about the Borsuk IFV.
The Polish state armaments group PGZ also announced on September 6th that its consortium with WZM has received an order from the Ministry of Defense for the overhaul of infantry fighting vehicles BWP-1. The Polish army has about 1,000 outdated BWP-1 vehicles - the Polish designation for the Soviet infantry fighting vehicle BMP-1 - which are to be replaced by the new Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle.
The new order, worth nearly 100 million PLN (26.24 million USD), will be executed in the years 2022-2024. It shows that despite acquiring a modern infantry fighting vehicle, the Poles are not willing to give up the old quality of the BWP-1. Moto: Acquire new, modernize old.
