When it comes to quickly getting off-road with some luggage, hardly anything beats an ATV. This stands for "All Terrain Vehicle". As soon as the military shows interest, especially the Americans, who are known to invest a lot of money, it doesn't take long until there are military versions.More power, more resilient, and tailored to specific needs. Polaris currently manufactures most ATVs for the U.S. Special Operations Command.
Recently, the Marines ordered around 144 units of the Utility Task Vehicle (UTV). The vehicles resemble the version that is already used by the U.S. Special Operations Command USSOCOM, however, the Marines version runs on diesel and JP-8 fuel. Additionally, the UTV is so compact that it fits into an MV-22 Osprey helicopter. The vehicles assist in logistics, allowing for faster distribution of loads. This is particularly pleasing for ground troops, as a SOF ATV can carry a load of up to 680 kilograms.
As mentioned at the beginning, everything is installed according to needs. For example, the headlights are equipped with an infrared filter, allowing driving with night vision devices. Weapon mounts on the vehicle are also essential.
Finally, it should be noted that the vehicles are indeed used. Such as in Afghanistan. Or in 2016 during a training exercise of the 82nd Airborne Division. They parachuted with ten MRZR vehicles over Poland for a training scenario where NATO would respond to a possible Russian aggressor.
