Markus Königsberger from RangeIsClear.com already has it - his new 1911 from Schmeisser Germany. And excited fans could already admire the German reissue of the classic pistol at IWA 2017. During our visit to Krefeld, we from SPARTANAT were able to test the neoclassical 1911. "I was excited from the beginning about what has been achieved here," says experienced IPSC shooter Markus, who has also extensively tested it: "Many doubted at the beginning whether an AR15 manufacturer can also produce a decent pistol. Yes, this pistol is successful in every respect."
At Schmeisser, they are also pleased with the successful project. The classic, single-row 1911 pistol - optimized in the spirit of the founder - looks great, shoots well, and comes from Germany. But why, the hell, is a 1911 called "Hugo"? As Thomas Hoff from Schmeisser Germany explains, the name came about during the development process of the weapon. The team thought about what would be good. Suddenly Hugo was on the table. And it fit. One wouldn't necessarily associate the legendary German weapons designer Hugo Schmeisser with a 1911 ... But even here, according to Thomas Hoff, the trail is different. In the company and around it, there are many experienced IPSC shooters. These "Schmeisserians" love their 1911.
And that's why they dared to approach the gun, because so much experience with the 1911 system has been gathered over decades here. Moreover, there is already a lot of history in the 1911 itself: Every single control element has been perfected with the experience of more than a hundred years and millions of shooters. The result is a reliable high-performance weapon with excellent precision.
Markus Königsberger from RangeIsClear.com introduces the Schmeisser 1911 Hugo, starting with the sober basic data:
Scope of delivery:
The plastic case with subtle Schmeisser logo.
The very detailed, modern and understandable user manual.
Some time ago, Schmeisser called for a vote on its Facebook page. To honor the 133rd birthday of Hugo Schmeisser - the namesake of the pistol - there should be a colored special edition.
If you paid attention, you could see that the 1911 published on Facebook in RAL8000 is the one made for me. Because Thomas Hoff alias "Mr. Schmeisser" assured me the matching 1911 in RAL8000 for my AR15 DMR - HERE is the report from my visit to Schmeisser. Thanks again at this point.
My personal conclusion: The pistol convinces both in terms of gun processing and in details, such as the milled logo on the slide and grip panels.
The ILAG coating (similar to Cerakote) is flawlessly processed - which future owners of a special edition, which by the way will be available in Thunder Bronze, can look forward to.
The trigger is excellently set from the factory, with a clean defined pressure point and crisp trigger reset.
Also, the Dust Cover does not exceed the maximum length of 75mm (according to IPSC rules for the Classic Division). In terms of dimensions, it also fits into the IPSC standard box.
For IPSC use, in my opinion - also depending on personal preference - only the following adaptations are necessary:
Although these changes are not compulsory and are at the discretion of each individual shooter's preferences. "We have tried to deliver the ideal 1911 with Hugo," says Thomas Hoff from Schmeisser Germany. "Real carbon grips, extremely good fit ... Schmeisser stands for quality." Hugo is currently only available on the European market. Although a German 1911 would be a special treat especially for the USA. The pistol can be purchased at any selected gun store at a retail price starting from €1,649.- The Hugo Schmeisser birthday edition is also already available for order. The gun in Thunder Bronze (shown at the bottom right) costs 1,890 Euro.
Hugo colorful: various variants in Cerakote. Each one prettier than the other ...
