The biggest part is done, but let's continue with some meaningful upgrades for the ALICE Pack. Oddly enough, this backpack is missing a carry handle. Today, we want to change that, with the help of Paracord.
The easiest way to create a carry handle is by tying some Paracord. We used our camouflaged 550 Type III. How much do you need? You can count on at least three meters. Depending on how big you want the handle to be. First, fold your cord in half and wrap it around the crossbar as shown in the image. If you want to be extra secure, you can tie a clove hitch knot here. Then bring the two ends to the other side. This forms the basic structure of your handle. At this step, you also determine the length of the carry handle.
Let's start with a decorative knot called the "Cobra Lanyard Knot." You've probably seen it on some backpacks or Paracord "survival bracelets". With the video and the link, you should get a good idea of how to tie it.
This is what the handle looks like in the middle. You can already get a good idea of what the end result should look like. It's important to tighten and push each individual knot to the back, otherwise the handle will be too loose.
The handle is finished. To prevent the Cobra knot from unraveling, we, admittedly a bit unsightly but functional, simply made a simple knot at each end. This way, the ends won't come loose and the handle can easily support the weight of the backpack.
With the carry handle, you can now easily lift or hang the pimped ALICE Pack. Happy knotting.
