PHOTO FILE: VKBO 6B48 - Russian Ratnik Tankist

Those who sit in a tank need different equipment than an infantryman. From the Ratnik equipment, there is also special gear for tank crew members, a new Tankovy kostyum (tank crew uniform).

The corresponding helmet in the Russian equipment nomenclature is called 6B48.

Modern Russian tanker in full gear. 6B48 is actually a skullcap with less protective surface area than the helmet for regular troops. With the uniform - as also used for crews of the T14 Armata - traditional uniform colors for Russian tank soldiers are used, ranging from black to dark blue. This is not only about Digital Flora/EMR as a camouflage pattern, but also about flame resistance to protect tank soldiers.

The VKBO uniform for tankists has a different cut than VKBO Level 4 for infantry and resembles a jumpsuit. The lace-up boots of the infantry are now also used.

In addition, there is a protective vest with MOLLE, even though the tank crew members do not carry much equipment. Possibly magazine pouches for a pistol or AKSU, radio pouch, etc.

What doesn't change for Russians is the typical hood for tankists, which goes by the lovely name "Shlemofon." The padding prevents hitting the head in the tight combat vehicle, now also used as an inner hood with 6B48.

But what is more modern and offers more protection is the 6B48 helmet in the VKBO kit for tankers.
