The Americans want to explore new ways with Personnel Air Mobility System (PAMS). A militarized motorized paraglider platform is intended to provide both infiltration and exfiltration capabilities at low altitude (close to the ground and/or at high altitude) to increase survivability and avoid detection by the enemy, as well as transit flights at higher altitudes up to about 10,000 feet (approximately 3 km) where the threat profile and mission parameters allow for it. The PAMS will support multiple types of missions, including reconnaissance, surveillance, troop movement, infiltration, and exfiltration. The new PAMS will also significantly reduce the cost of deploying/transporting soldiers compared to traditional means.
This new system is designed to transport individual soldiers over hundreds of kilometers, reducing reliance on conventional air transport means and increasing the range of traditional parachute infiltration systems. Recently, the US Army has requested the industry to submit their solutions. It will be interesting to see how the PAMS project develops in the future.
