Rheinmetall delivers simulation technology to the Bundeswehr for the realistic combat training of the armored infantry with the Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) Puma with a total value of up to 142 million euros gross. Rheinmetall received a corresponding order for the so-called Training Device Duell Simulator (AGDUS) at the end of December 2019 from the consortium responsible for the IFV Puma, which had been commissioned by the Bundeswehr on December 20, 2019. Initially, a pre-series of six systems will be developed and integrated. The order value booked for Rheinmetall in January 2020 amounts to 54 million euros gross. After reaching series maturity, there is an option to equip 252 infantry fighting vehicles. This would result in another order for Rheinmetall amounting to around 88 million euros gross, increasing the total value of the AGDUS order to around 142 million euros gross.
The AGDUS sets consist of laser detectors mounted around the vehicle, as well as eye-safe laser transmitters, which simulate the effects of the main weapon systems of the Infantry Fighting Vehicle Puma, consisting of the onboard cannon, machine gun, and the MELLS anti-tank guided missile. The laser algorithms are programmed to simulate shots and hits ballistically accurately. With AGDUS Puma, the simulation of the turret-independent secondary weapon system (TSWA) and the self-protection system will also be possible. This allows exercises to be conducted and evaluated very realistically at the Combat Training Center Army and other training facilities.
Both the Vehicle Systems Division and the Electronic Solutions Division - and thus especially the Rheinmetall locations in Bremen and Unterlüß - will contribute their expertise to this training equipment in fulfilling this order.
True to the motto "Practice as you fight!", the AGDUS equipment of the IFV Puma will significantly contribute to the operational readiness of the German armored infantry.
