On Thursday, September 1, 2022, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner took over the 50th "Pandur Evolution" at the assembly plant of General Dynamics European Land Systems-Steyr GmbH in Vienna Simmering for the Austrian Armed Forces. A total of 100 of these armored personnel carriers have been ordered. This investment ensures that Austrian soldiers receive the best possible protection with improved mobility.
Since 1994, the Pandur has been a universally deployable, protected personnel carrier in the Austrian Armed Forces for tasks in national defense, peacekeeping missions as part of the Common Security and Defense Policy, defense against terrorist attacks, hybrid threats, protection of critical infrastructure, support in security assistance tasks, disaster relief, and the deployment of reserve forces and special units. The Pandur, as a protected personnel transport and medical vehicle, has been reliably serving the Austrian Armed Forces at home and abroad for over two decades. The "Pandur Evo" is being acquired as a further development of the Pandur A2. Improvements include increased mine protection, more interior space, integration of an NBC system, an all-around vision system, and the ability to attach additional armor. By 2020, 34 "Pandur Evo" vehicles had already been delivered to the Austrian Armed Forces. By 2023, another 30 units will be delivered, and by 2025, an additional 36 "Pandur Evo" vehicles will be handed over to the troops.
The contract value for 100 "Pandur Evo" vehicles is approximately 356 million euros. This includes logistics support, spare parts, and tool packages. Over 200 Austrian subcontractors are involved in the Pandur Evo project, resulting in a national value creation of around 70 percent. These orders not only secure jobs in the high-tech sector but also signify the preservation of knowledge and technology in the Austrian security and defense industry.
