Rheinmetall has been awarded the contract to deliver the new leadership simulator for training the Swiss Army after a comprehensive evaluation by armasuisse, one of the four central procurement authorities of the Swiss government. The contract was signed in February 2019.
The new leadership simulator will be located at the General Staff School (Gst S) in Kriens. The Command Leadership Simulator has been successfully offering simulator-based leadership training in the entire performance profile of the Swiss Army at this training center for years. Military commanders and staff at the operational and tactical levels can train leadership and situation tracking together with civilian leadership organizations at the federal, cantonal, or municipal level.
Rheinmetall was able to establish itself as a system supplier and integrator for the new leadership simulator through an intensive evaluation process with a forward-looking overall concept. A key component is the integration and linking of C2I and UMS systems with the new constructive simulation system Osiris.
One of the requirements was a significant reduction in operating personnel. This can now be achieved with Osiris software designed for automation. Operation and maintenance during the usage phase by a material competence center complete the planned scope of delivery and services.
With Osiris, it will be possible to model both the operational and tactical use of individual military forces and their capabilities – on land, air, and sea – using a joint model for the armed forces.
By training scenarios ranging from disaster relief to national defense to peacekeeping missions, the leadership process can be trained with a realistic and current operational context in line with the Swiss Security Network (SVS). Civil partners from the federal government, cantons, and municipalities can be specifically involved. This enhances the value of simulator-based staff exercises even further.
The operation of the leadership simulator can be carried out at different hierarchical levels. Highly automated control is possible from individual entities up to the brigade level. Osiris supports the input of aggregated commands across multiple levels simultaneously, providing maximum control flexibility over simulated entities and enabling a wide range of training levels.
Rheinmetall's forward-looking solution meets all requirements of the Swiss Confederation for the new leadership simulator in Kriens. As an experienced company in the field of simulation and training, Rheinmetall, as the supplier and system integrator, takes responsibility for the successful implementation of the requirements and system integration.
Rheinmetall has been one of the leading developers and manufacturers of simulation technology for over 40 years. The range includes computer-assisted learning, land, air and sea vehicle simulators for crew training, and training centers for the tactical training of entire units with original equipment.
