ON TOUR: Factory visit at SIG SAUER

10/24/2018By Redaktion
I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with translating text within HTML elements, image sources, and links.

Even though SIG SAUER in Eckernförde presents itself very soberly from the outside, weapon forges still radiate something mysterious. This is partly because they usually do not want to be very public, and partly because there is a bit of myth involved. Something like: Hephaistos forging the sword at a glowing forge. In the Middle Ages, mythical dwarfs crafting weapons and armor. In cultural memory are also the images of the large industrial weapon forges of the 19th century, often associated with the name Krupp. Well, that's all history.

We at SPARTANAT had the opportunity to visit SIG SAUER in Germany. Many thanks to the very friendly team in Eckernförde for introducing us to the law enforcement offer:

Of course, we also had the opportunity for an extremely exciting factory tour, where you can follow step by step how a modern weapon is created. Where the visitor also recognizes what state-of-the-art weapons production looks like. Of course, photography is not allowed. But we received a photo series from SIG SAUER, which provides a wonderful insight into the daily work. We don't want to withhold them from you:

These three pieces ultimately show simply from which initial stage the finished product ultimately emerges.

In between are many steps for a variety of products, from pistols to rifles, for sports and law enforcement weapons. Here, an employee checks the barrels for strength and density.

And much revolves around scientific precision and state-of-the-art technology. Here we see a probe that runs over the slide of a P226 X-Six to measure quality (surface condition, etc.).

No forge, no hammers, no myth. Rational production processes and state-of-the-art machines. Manufactured with CNC and in an expandable production line.

These state-of-the-art machines at the Eckernförde production site ensure the high standards of SIG SAUER. Just last year, SIG SAUER invested in a new machine park. One of many steps towards the company's future.

For the legendary P226 frame, SIG SAUER entrusts only advanced machines.

Trained personnel regularly maintain the production machines. The staff at SIG SAUER have been working across all areas for many years.

Surface density, texture, and possible irregularities: each component at SIG SAUER is checked and released only when everything fits.

Precise technology lasers the SIG SAUER logo, serial number, and proof mark into the slides of the premium pistols.

SIG SAUER with the Eckernförde facility has set a new course for the future. The successes with the German police encourage the team. Founded in 1751, the company itself is the oldest gun manufacturer in Germany. But while SIG SAUER Inc. in the USA has grown magnificently, Germany has recently shrunk to 50 employees, with an uncertain future. A turnaround has been successfully achieved here and a course for the future has been set. Today, over 100 people are working for SIG SAUER Germany again, and the plant is more efficient than ever.
