The Spaniards are modernizing their G36 rifle with the help of Steyr Arms and Wilcox Industries. The upgrade program includes new components like a barrel, housing, and magazine well, along with the WILCOX FUSION System for improved functionality. Visit Steyr Arms and Wilcox Industries online for more information.
Since 1999, the Spaniards have been using the G36, which they call Fusil Asalto 5.56mm. After 20 years, it is time to modernize the rifle. Interestingly, Steyr Arms from Austria and Wilcox Industries from the USA may be involved in this.
The G36 Upgrade Program consists of improved components: a new barrel, a new housing, a new magazine well, and the WILCOX FUSION System. This package is supposed to be more cost-effective than acquiring a completely new weapon platform. A very interesting step is the omission of any kind of modularity like M-Lok or Picatinny.
The proposed WILCOX FUSION System for the Steyr G36 Upgrade Program is a lightweight integrated modular forearm that is powered by a single CR123 battery and provides a comprehensive solution including a reflex sight, a red visible laser, an IR laser, a fixed IR illuminator, and a SureFire Dual Spectrum head with white and infrared light.
