Austria: New camouflage uniforms

Rumors have been circulating for a long time, now it is clear that RAL7013 is slowly becoming history, tomorrow Camo will be issued to the Hunter Battalion 18 in St. Michael as the first unit. There will be 4,000 sets in the first year. Austria is jumping on the camouflage uniform trend: see the video above for moving images. The new uniforms will feature a "modern camouflage pattern," adapted to the "typical Austrian vegetation" (we immediately think of the dry Burgenland). It consists of six colors and is made up of both small and large spots.

The pattern is supposed to make sense: "The specific infrared remission values of each color make reconnaissance difficult with optoelectronic reconnaissance equipment, such as night vision devices." New material will also be used. It is characterized by high tear resistance and durability, is flame-resistant and breathable. And the soldiers are valued by the army: a uniform is said to cost 66 euros.

Only one unit will deviate from the new trend: The Jagdkommando will be equipped with its own uniform, as announced by the Minister in 2018. And they want to be flexible. Furthermore, the uniform can be adapted to the conditions depending on the area of deployment and printed with special patterns. Also in terms of production: it is returning to Austria, as the previous uniforms were made in Spain. The introduction will be rotating: uniforms are intended to last for four years, whatever is discarded will be replaced by the new set...
