NZ: 7.62 instead of 5.56 for the LMG

The New Zealand Army is upgrading from the Minimi in 5.56 to the Light Support Weapon in 7.62 for increased firepower. The weight difference is minimal, but the heavier ammunition provides more stopping power.

02/20/2013  By Redaktion

The New Zealand Army will replace its Minimi in 5.56 (C9) with those in caliber 7.62, referred to as Light Support Weapon (LSW). The weight difference of the empty weapons is less than a kilo, only the ammunition in 7.62×51 is significantly heavier. The reason for the decision: firepower matters.
