Rheinmetall has delivered a specially protected Survivor R operational vehicle to the North Rhine-Westphalia Police. Herbert Reul, the Minister of the Interior of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, symbolically handed over the keys of the vehicle to the Special Deployment Command Essen. The versatile Survivor R, which has now been delivered, was commissioned in the spring of 2018 and tailored to the needs of the Special Deployment Command. In addition to North Rhine-Westphalia, Berlin and Saxony also use the Survivor R as a vehicle for their police special forces.
The Survivor R from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles stands for the topics of security and mobility to which Rheinmetall is dedicated. Developed in cooperation with the specialist vehicle manufacturer Achleitner, the Survivor R is ideally suited as a protected special vehicle for police forces. Such vehicles are particularly needed in police situations with high potential for danger to bring special forces to their deployment location under protection or to evacuate people from the danger zone.
The Survivor R is based on a powerful 4x4 truck chassis from MAN and a cabin made of armored steel. This high-mobility and over 100 km/h fast vehicle combines automotive mass production technology with state-of-the-art protection technology from Rheinmetall.
The consistent use of civilian-commercial and military series components allows for an affordable vehicle price, as well as worldwide maintenance and repair in the Rheinmetall MAN service network. This makes the Survivor R a cost-effective, easy-to-maintain vehicle platform with low lifecycle costs and high operational readiness.
