Norway's new LEOPARD 2 bridge laying vehicle LEGUAN

11/01/2021By Redaktion

Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has ceremoniously handed over the first of a total of six Leguan bridge laying systems on LEOPARD 2 basis to high-ranking representatives of the Norwegian procurement agency (NDMA). Despite the pandemic, the delivery of the systems will begin well before the contractually agreed date. In addition to the LEGUAN on the LEOPARD 2 chassis, LEGUAN training simulators and a peripheral package will also be delivered to the Norwegian customer.

Not least due to the performance of the LEOPARD 2 chassis, this system is already under contract with nine user nations. Armies from 19 countries in total operate the Leguan bridge laying system on various mobility platforms. The Norwegian army is thus making a significant contribution to the future mobility of European NATO forces. The LEGUAN is capable of transporting and laying a bridge in the military load class MLC80 (approximately 72 tons) with a length of 26 meters, or alternatively two bridges with a length of 14 meters each under combat conditions. More information about the Leguan armored vehicle-launched bridge.
