NETHERLANDS: Delay in the introduction of new combat clothing

The Defense Operational Clothing System (DOKS) project's final combat clothing faces delays due to quality issues. Ministry of Defense prioritizes quality over speed. Interim solution introduced earlier for military personnel while suppliers work to meet requirements.

The final combat clothing from the Defense Operational Clothing System (DOKS) project is expected to take another year. During the tests, the clothing offered did not meet the requirements set by the Ministry of Defense. The organization considers quality more important than speed and is not satisfied with anything less. State Secretary Christophe van der Maat informed the Lower House of Parliament about this today.

Defense tested the clothing of potential suppliers. For example, soldiers from different units wore the combat clothing in various (climatic) conditions. The focus was on functionality and comfort, as well as various quality tests. None of the systems currently meet the specifications required by the Ministry of Defense. Both suppliers have indicated that they can improve the combat clothing and meet the quality requirements.

Interim solution

The DOKS project also ended earlier. This was due to expedited procedures from rejected suppliers. The Ministry has already decided to introduce an interim solution earlier. Since the middle of last year, military personnel have been receiving this improved interim clothing package. Distributing around 480,000 pants and jackets is a major logistical operation. As the arrival of DOKS is taking longer, the interim solution is now being extended.
