The Russian company Concern Kalashnikov has introduced the new RPK-16, a light machine gun with a 96-round drum magazine and weighing less than 5 kilograms. Similar to the M27 IAR, this mobile firepower aims to provide efficient performance in a compact design.
Mobile units need mobile firepower. From the Russian company Concern Kalashnikov comes the new RPK-16, a light machine gun in 5.45x39 with 96 rounds in the drum magazine. The weapon's special feature, according to the parent company, is that it is especially light. The RPK-16 is expected to weigh less than 5 kilograms. For comparison: the M249 weighs easily twice as much, but also does not quite have the same concept behind it. As a weapon, the RPK-16 is more similar to an HBAR, like the M27 IAR, which was also introduced to the Marines, a light machine gun based on the HK416. Magazine instead of belt, but still firepower.
