The Australian version of the AUG, the F-88, is being upgraded by Thales Australia to the latest standards (EF-88). The planned improvements to the weapon itself range from the barrel, additional mounting rails, a folding charging handle, modified housing design, and an optional 40mm underbarrel grenade launcher. Of particular note is the Rifle Input Control by Thales, a kind of mini keyboard mounted directly on the rifle for controlling electronic devices. Production is set to begin in 2013.
