The US Army is working with the USMC and the USAF to find a better targeting device for Forward Air Controllers/JTACs. The whole project is taking place under the program name Joint Effects Targeting System (JETS), with the marker itself being referred to as the Target Location Designation System (TLDS). The two companies in the running for the contract are BAE Systems (whose HAMMER test system is shown above) and DRS Technologies Inc. The first devices from the winner are expected to be delivered to the troops in 2016.
