BAE Systems has received a contract worth about 60 million euros to equip the Swedish CV90 infantry fighting vehicle with a new grenade launcher system. The fact that it is named after the hammer of the god Thor seems like a good choice: it is an automatic 120mm dual-barrel grenade launcher in the turret. "With the Mjölner, the Swedish Army gets an additional capability, precisely tailored to this vehicle platform, while the launcher-equipped CV90s simultaneously enhance the firepower of the mechanized battalions," says Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, Managing Director of BAE Systems Hägglunds.
Delivery will begin in 2019. 40 vehicles will gain the capability for indirect fire, thus reinforcing the armored infantry. The CV90 is the Swedish infantry fighting vehicle, developed for the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) by BAE Systems Hägglunds and BAE Systems Bofors, which supply the combat turrets, of which over 500 are in service with the Swedes. The CV90 is also in service in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland.
