The artillery troops of the Bundeswehr will receive up to 180,000 programmable time fuzes for 155 mm caliber cargo shells. A corresponding framework contract with a duration of ten years for production and delivery was signed today at the Bundeswehr Procurement Office with the manufacturer JUNGHANS Microtec GmbH. Prior to this, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag approved the project.
Financed from the Bundeswehr's special assets, the agreement now concluded already allows for an optional increase of another 90,000 fuzes to a total of 270,000. At the same time, there will be an initial call-off this year for the qualification of the pilot lot of the new ammunition parts. The delivery of the programmable fuzes is planned for the next two years. The procurement covers both the current needs of the Bundeswehr and long-term storage for the German Army.
With the programmable fuzes, the so-called cargo ammunition can be fired with the Panzerhaubitze 2000 of the artillery troops in operations, for training, and for training purposes. The various types of ammunition equipped with the fuzes in caliber 155 mm serve as carriers for illuminating, smoke, infrared, and other submunitions needed in the respective scenario. With the help of the time fuzes, the respective ammunition can unfold its effect precisely when needed.
