USSOCOM has awarded a contract to Nightforce for a new optic with a reticle on the first focal plane for M4 carbines up to 600 meters. The ATACR 1-8x will feature a BDC reticle tailored to USSOCOM requirements, with contract value potentially reaching $21 million.
Since last year, USSOCOM has been looking for a new optic through procurement that can be used on an M4 carbine up to a distance of 600 meters. The contract for an optic with a reticle on the first focal plane has now been awarded to Nightforce. Nightforce was initially awarded 15 million dollars; however, the contract can grow up to a value of 21 million dollars.
The optic in question is the ATACR (Advanced Tactical Rifle) 1-8x. The version for the military will essentially be the same as the commercial variant. However, it will be equipped with a BDC (Ballistic Drop Compensating) reticle tailored to the requirements of USSOCOM.
