Five colors, three colors, and desert, that's not enough anymore. The Bundeswehr (German army) is getting two new camouflage patterns, as reported by the Strategy & Technology Blog. "Significant in this exemplary camo coup was the Scientific Institute for Materials and Fuels of the Bundeswehr (WIWeB)," reports Jan-Phillipp Weisswange. "The institute in Erding developed the patterns in close cooperation with the troops. In the course of the investigations of a universally usable camouflage print, the institute conducted intensive international research and also commissioned design studies. Work on the German "multicam" began in 2012. (...) Subsequently, the technical feasibility of the design, which was rated as optimal, for the various textile base materials used in the Bundeswehr was examined. Once this proof was provided, the pattern was implemented and introduced. The base colors of the new multicam are light green, dark green, brown, beige, gray, and white. It complements the German camouflage pattern palette."
Or to put it simply: the Bundeswehr has introduced a multicam in flecktarn with German color selection and is following the international camouflage standard. There are also new things for winter: "The new snow camouflage print also complements the existing camouflage pattern palette. The idea was to replace the old cotton snow camouflage overall with a modern and efficient additional equipment for winter combat. (...) The new winter camouflage scheme is derived from the three-color camouflage print and includes white as the dominant color along with dark green and gray." HERE is the whole story on the Strategy & Technology Blog.
