At the MSPO 2017 in Targi Kielce, there was no red carpet rolled out for a new camouflage pattern called MAPA - short for "multi-environment adaptive pattern". But it was still one of the most striking appearances at the Polish trade fair. Everywhere, young men and women were walking around in full combat gear, with weapons, face masks, and night vision goggles. MAPA has shown itself more than clearly - we had HERE on SPARTANAT already reported over a year ago on the first appearance of MAPA.Now and then there are good camouflage patterns, but we didn't think that MAPA would progress so quickly: The Polish army is establishing a new, fifth armed force, the Territorial Defense Forces (Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej). It will consist of 17 brigades (one per voivodeship, two for Warsaw) and will be completely equipped with new gear. MAPA is the new camouflage pattern of the Territorial Defense Forces. Reason enough to take a closer look.
The first two pictures give a good impression of the pattern itself, dominated by brown and green. Early photos showed yellow lines (see article from last year) which are now green. The close-up view is somewhat reminiscent of a digital amoeba, while the long-distance view gives an impression of tiger stripes, subjectively speaking.
In addition to the active comrades, there were also these two mannequin comrades at the MSPO, presenting the system at a standstill. The gentleman attending to the mannequin's pants was an enthusiastic presenter at the exhibition. On the left, you see the rather classic field blouse, on the right, a full combat outfit with plate carrier, hearing protection, and helmet.
Poland opts for a very classic plate carrier, reminiscent of a light LBT-6094 and modular. All pockets are MOLLE. You can also see a very modern War Belt with small MOLLE on the belt itself, which has a Cobra buckle. A MOLLE cover is pulled over the belt, providing a wider platform for the First Line.
View from the other direction. The observer can clearly see that the Poles have carefully examined what is internationally common and have picked the best for their own designs.
MAPA does not yet have its own MOLLE fabric. What we see here is OD or RAL7013. This will change in the future, there will be its own MAPA webbing.
As we passed by, we had the opportunity to inspect various equipment. The machine gunner here has a low-sitting, elongated Hydration Carrier on the armor.
Variant 2 of the back equipment is a very small Assault Pack. The observer also sees a small piece of the Cumberbund. It is very slim and equipped with two lines of MOLLE. This is sufficient if you want to attach pockets.
Here, there is already march relief. Without a plate carrier, there is a very classic system of a fully equipped belt with an H-frame above. The gray pouch in the middle at the bottom is an IFAK, obviously colored to be quickly recognized by comrades. Inside is a pouch in MAPA containing the material for trauma care. It can be pulled out of the gray compartment with one hand.
We also went below the belt. The pants with their knee stripes remind us of a useful Arc'teryx Design. The Crye Knee Pad next to it wants to tell us that there will also be a version with knee protectors. Everything we have seen here are still prototypes, but we think it looks very good and promising - both the MAPA pattern and the entire equipment.
The new helmet of the Territorial Defense Forces is a High-Cut with Rails, plus a modern helmet cover. It is also from Massepol and is called HP-05. The attachment for night vision goggles is mandatory, and there is a counterweight pocket at the back of the monochrome cover, which is again in MAPA. For times when a helmet is not required, the Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej will receive an earth-brown Barrett with the Polish eagle. If you like moving pictures, there is a small MAPA film HERE on SPARTANAT INSTAGRAM.
