Rheinmetall will deliver a turnkey modern field hospital to the Ukrainian armed forces with the support of the German government. The contract from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense was awarded to Rheinmetall subsidiary Zeppelin Mobile Systeme GmbH (ZMS) in September 2022 and has a value of around 9 million EUR. This includes training on the system. The field hospital is expected to be delivered in the course of 2023.
The field hospital is designed as a combined tent and container-based system and includes high-quality medical equipment installed in ZMS shelters. Rheinmetall will also provide tents and necessary infrastructure for autonomous operation.
The system includes shelters with emergency room, triage area, operating room, intensive care unit, computed tomography, sterilization, and medication storage. In addition, there are tents for administration, care, pre-operation, triage, waiting room, and staff accommodation. Supply containers for sanitary facilities, transport, fresh and utility water, oxygen, power supply, and a decontamination tent are also part of the delivery. The field hospital complies with the Role-2 standard.
Zeppelin Mobile Systeme GmbH is the leading manufacturer of individual customer-specific shelter solutions that create environmental conditions that are otherwise only achievable in permanent buildings. With expertise in the complete realization of mobile medical facilities and the ability to integrate state-of-the-art medical technology into existing infrastructure, ZMS has an innovative focus in its own portfolio of services.
ZMS is part of Rheinmetall's new business area International Projects and Services. The business area combines resources and capabilities to support military customers in the field as well as in areas such as depot logistics or ammunition disposal. Rheinmetall's goal is to act as a "one-stop-shop" for customers in the field support area. For example, Rheinmetall plans to set up and operate field camps for deployment, with reinforced and medical areas, as well as modern sensor and robotic monitoring to complete the portfolio.
