Aimpoint presented their new red dot sight, the Aimpoint COMPM5b, at this year's MILIPOL. It is powered by a AAA battery and features a new Bullet Drop Compensator. In comparison to the old CompM5, the battery compartment has moved to the seven o'clock position and the adjustment turrets look different.
Everyone loves technical data, so here are the specifications of the Aimpoint COMPM5b:
Overall, the sight looks more solid and therefore more robust than its predecessors. Only time will tell if it really is. Diving with the COMPM5b is definitely not a problem, as it can withstand a depth of 45m easily.
The exciting part are the adjustment turrets. These are now designed to be adjustable at any time, in order to take a precise shot. This is not a new concept in itself, as it is known from rifle scopes, but for a red dot it is definitely a new approach. Various calibrated "Ballistic Caps" will be available, which will then fit the ammunition used. Those looking to use specific calibers should find a receptive ear at Aimpoint, as the caps can be produced for any caliber.
Unfortunately, there is no official information yet on the release and price of the Aimpoint COMPM5b. Aimpoint products can be found in Germany at POL-TEC.
