The Bundeswehr has commissioned the delivery of 30,000 communication sets with hearing protection function, with up to 191,000 to be procured in total. The SMG provides soldiers with maximum protection while allowing for effective communication, and is compatible with other equipment. This milestone in troop equipment is expected to be completed by 2025. Visit BUNDESWEHR for more information.
In a key project for the tactical communication of the Bundeswehr, the procurement office recently commissioned the delivery of a further 30,000 communication sets with hearing protection function, abbreviated as SMG. Just in April of this year, a first delivery of 30,000 units was ordered from the underlying framework contract with Rheinmetall Electronics.
In the future, a total of up to 191,000 SMG can be procured through this framework contract, in order to provide all soldiers with access to comprehensive communication.
The SMG attenuates harmful impulse noise through an active capsule hearing protection, in order to offer soldiers maximum protection while still being able to perceive environmental noise and communicate, for example, during shooting. It can be paired with the radio systems used by the Bundeswehr through the microphone. Additionally, the SMG is compatible with all other equipment of the troop, especially the combat helmet, shooting glasses, and NBC protective mask.
Equipping all soldiers with the SMG represents a significant milestone in the equipment of the troop. The SMG from the first call-off are expected to start arriving by the end of this year, while the delivery of the current order is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
