Bundeswehr:

More optics for the G95

On July 8, the German Parliament approved the procurement of primary combat and reflex sights for the Bundeswehr's G95 assault rifle, completing its system. Despite issues with night vision compatibility of the primary sight, the decision favored the tried-and-true combination of optics, necessitating additional funding for further units.

The Bundeswehr in a shopping frenzy: On July 8, Parliament approved the call-off of primary combat and reflex sights for the new G95 assault rifle of the Bundeswehr from an existing framework agreement. The delivery will occur in sync with the components base weapon and laser light module, thus completing the Bundeswehr's assault rifle system. This optics enables the use of the assault rifle up to the maximum combat range – in conjunction with night vision devices or night vision goggles also at night or in reduced visibility. So says the official text.

The core of this procurement is that the well-tested primary combat sight (HKV) for the new G95, in the form of a SPECTER DR, has its problems with night vision devices as a prism optic. At least when one wants to aim with NVG through the optics. The solution is to simply slap an AIMPOINT ACRO P2 on top. So essentially the same solution as with the HKV of the G36. Bottom optics with magnification, above a red dot. The ACRO is still missing in the opening image, just in case anyone is wondering.

After the "deficiency" became known, the market had to be explored again to see if there was a better (cheaper) option for the new HKV. The Bundeswehr concluded: No, this combo is perfect. Thus, additional funds had to be approved for the procurement of further HKVs for the new G95.
